Many people have decided to go for the concrete post option with panels easily slotted in between, however we have found that this can give quite a harsh appearance as the posts are always white which is very garish in a garden. You could paint them, but you would be committed to re-painting every couple of years to keep them looking good. At Gardens2u we use tanalised wooden panels and posts, which do not need treating, that blend in much more effectively. We can also use trellis on top to avoid a hemmed in feeling.
Another benefit of wooden posts is their lack of noise: because the fencing is fixed to the post it will not make any noise whereas when concrete posts are used the fence panel can move within the post and cause rattling that can become quite noisy on a windy day.
